Smart Unlock (with push button start)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The smart unlock feature prevents the doors from electronically locking when a passive key is left inside the vehicle. When the doors are locked and then closed, the interior of the vehicle is scanned for a passive key. If a passive key is detected inside the vehicle when the doors are locked and closed, the doors unlock.

The smart unlock feature also operates to prevent locking a passive key inside the luggage compartment. When the luggage compartment lid is closed, the interior of the vehicle is scanned for a passive key. If a passive key is detected inside the luggage compartment when the luggage compartment lid is closed, the BCM releases the luggage compartment lid latch.

To override the smart unlock feature, lock the doors using the driver door lock cylinder, the keyless entry keypad or another programmed passive key.
