• 1.
  
  Position the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

• 2.
  
  Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray - 1.0L EcoBoost (90kW/120PS)/1.6L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS) - Sigma .

• 3.
  
  Position aside the wiring harness.

  Remove the nuts and the battery tray support bracket.

  Remove the transmission vent tube. Remove the ground strap bolt and the wiring retainer.

  Remove the wiring retainers from the bracket.

  Remove the top bellhousing bolts and the top starter motor bolt.

  Remove the gearshift cable cover.

  NOTE: Gearshift cables must not be kinked or bent.

  Remove the gearshift cables from the transmission.

  Remove the bolt and position aside the starter.

  NOTE: Do not forcibly bend or twist the exhaust flexible pipe. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to the flexible pipe.

  Support the exhaust flexible pipe with a support wrap or suitable splint. Use the General Equipment: Cable Ties

  Remove the nuts and separate the exhaust pipe from the down-pipe. Remove the gasket.

  Remove the nuts and position aside the exhaust support bracket.

  Remove the lower bellhousing bolts.

  Remove the bolt and position aside the brake hose.

  NOTE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.
  NOTE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may result.

  Remove and discard the lower ball joint nut and bolt. Disconnect the lower control arm and position it aside.

  Remove and discard the halfshaft retaining strap and the halfshaft retaining strap nuts.

  Remove the RH halfshaft from the transmission. Support the RH halfshaft.

  Remove the LH halfshaft. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH .

  NOTE: Note the different lengths of the bolts.

  Remove the bolts, the roll restrictor and the roll restrictor bracket.

  NOTE: Use caution when lowering the vehicle after the special tool is installed. If the vehicle is lowered onto the special tool, damage to the special tool or the vehicle can occur.

  Install the special tool and support the engine. Rotate the threaded drawbar of the special tool approximately 6 whole rotations after the rubber pad contacts the oil pan. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1554 Engine Support Bar.

  WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.
  NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.

  Disconnect the slave cylinder hydraulic tube from the slave cylinder.
