Catalytic Converter: Removal

1.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

2.

Loosen the clamps and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
Torque: 35 lb.in (4 Nm)

3.

Detach the wire harness retainers, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the HO2S. Use Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

4.

Detach the wire harness retainers, disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.

5.

Remove the bolt and position aside the electric coolant pump.
Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

7.

Disconnect the electrical connectors, detach the wire harness retainer. Remove the bolts and position aside the A/C compressor.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

- Remove and discard the catalytic converter bolts and nut.
- Remove the catalytic converter bracket bolts.

NOTE: Make sure that the exhaust flexible pipe is not forcibly bent or twisted.

Support the exhaust flexible pipe with a support wrap or suitable splint. Use the General Equipment: Cable Ties

- Remove and discard the nuts and gasket.
  Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Position aside the muffler inlet pipe.
