Oil Life/Maintenance Message Center Displays

The IPC provides message center messages to inform the driver the oil life has reached its limit and requires changing. The IPC also provides message center messages to inform the driver of the reason the engine is running resulting from the oil maintenance strategy for the plug in hybrid vehicle.

The message center provides an oil change minder to inform the driver that an oil change is required. The duration of the interval between oil changes is calculated in the PCM and varies due to driving conditions. The PCM assumes a base mileage of 16, 090 km (10, 000 mi) or 1 year for normal driving. However, this number is adjusted down for conditions such as high engine temperature, high engine rpm, use of flex fuel and possibly low oil level.

The oil maintenance mode for the plug in hybrid vehicles runs the engine for approximately 15 minutes to maintain engine oil integrity during long intervals when the engine is not used. The IPC provides message center message displays to inform the driver of the reason the engine is running.

The IPC receives the engine oil change minder messages from the BCM over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The BCM receives the engine oil change minder message from the GWM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The GWM receives the engine oil change minder message from the PCM over the HEV - CAN.

The IPC receives the engine on oil maintenance message display message from the GWM over the Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN). The GWM receives the engine on oil maintenance message display message from the SOBDMC over the HEV - CAN.
