Power Window Operation - Rear

NOTE: If the vehicle battery is disconnected, the one-touch up and one-touch down feature (and obstacle detection) is disabled prior to initialization.

The rear power windows operate when the interior light relay is active. The interior light relay is active whenever the ignition is on or the ignition has been turned off within a predetermined amount of time and the front doors have not been opened. Both rear windows are equipped with obstacle detection and one-touch up and one-touch down functionality. If an obstacle has been detected in the window opening as the window glass is moving upward, the window motor automatically reverses direction and moves the glass downward.

Left Hand (LH) Window Operation 

The master window control switch communicates to the DDM through a private LIN. The DDM communicates to the Driver Rear Door Module (DRDM) through a private LIN. When commanded by the master window control switch or the LH rear window control switch, the Driver Rear Door Module (DRDM) supplies power and ground to operate the LH rear window in the desired direction. The Driver Rear Door Module (DRDM) monitors window glass position through feedback from 2 Hall-effect sensors (integral to the power window motor). If there is an issue with the Hall-effect sensor circuit(s), the Driver Rear Door Module (DRDM) only moves the window in 500 ms intervals (the window control switch must be released and activated again to move the window).

Right Hand (RH) Window Operation 

The master window control switch communicates to the DDM through a private LIN. The DDM communicates to the PDM through the MS-CAN. The PDM communicates to the Passenger Rear Door Module (PRDM) through a private LIN. When commanded by the master window control switch or the RH rear window control switch, the Passenger Rear Door Module (PRDM) supplies power and ground to operate the RH rear window in the desired direction. The Passenger Rear Door Module (PRDM) monitors window glass position through feedback from 2 Hall-effect sensors (integral to the power window motor). If there is an issue with the Hall-effect sensor circuit(s), the Passenger Rear Door Module (PRDM) only moves the window in 500 ms intervals (the window control switch must be released and activated again to move the window).

Passenger Windows Lock-Out 

When the lock-out switch (part of the master window control switch) is in the LOCK position, the rear passenger power windows only operate from the master window control switch. When the lock-out switch (part of the master window control switch) is in the LOCK position, the rear passenger power windows only operate from the master window control switch.

Global Open/Close 

The global open/close feature only activates when the ignition is off and the interior light relay is inactive. When the unlock (or lock) button on the RKE transmitter is pressed and held, the BCM sends a request message to the DDM and PDM. When the message is received, the windows begin to open (or close). Once the windows have begun to move, the RKE transmitter button can be released and the windows continue moving until they are fully open (or closed). If the lock or unlock button on the RKE transmitter is pressed while the windows are moving, the window operations stop.
