Pinpoint Test D : The Temperature Gauge Is Inoperative
- D1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test BA For DTC U0140:00, GO to Pinpoint Test BF
For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .No GO to D2 - D2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes Refer to Engine Controls - Introduction (Except Diesel & Hybrid) . No GO to D3 - D3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) . No GO to D4 - D4 CHECK THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE OPERATION USING THE DEALER TEST MODE
- Ignition ON.
- Monitor the temperature gauge.
- Ignition OFF.
- Enter the Dealer Test Mode. Refer to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .
- Scroll to gauge sweep.
- Monitor the temperature gauge when the gauge sweep initiates.
Does the temperature gauge start at cold (C), move to full hot (H) and return to cold (C)?
Yes INSTALL a new PCM. Refer to the appropriate Engine article for the procedure. No Refer to IPC Hardware Testing .
