Instrument Panel: Removal

Evacuate and recover the A/C refrigerant. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging
- 4.
Remove the cowl panel grille. REFER to: Cowl Panel Grille
- 7.NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.
Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the evaporator pipe nut and position the flange and pipe aside.
Torque
: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)
- 8.NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.
Clamp and disconnect the heater hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)
- 9.
Remove both front doors. REFER to: FRONT DOOR
- 10.
Remove the floor console. REFER to: Floor Console - Vehicles Without: Center Armrest Refer to: Floor Console - Vehicles With: Center Armrest
- 11.WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
Turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute.

Remove the automatic transmission selector lever or the manual transmission gearshift lever. On both sides, Remove the A-pillar trim panel. REFER to: A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL

Position the front door weatherstrip aside, release the clips and remove the RH instrument panel finish panel.
- 18.
- Position the weatherstrip aside.
- Release the clips and remove the LH front door scuff plate panel.
- Remove the hood latch release handle access cover, release the clips and remove the hood latch release handle.
- Release the clips and remove the lower LH cowl trim panel.
- 19.
- Position the LH front carpet aside.
- Detach the retainer, remove the bolts and position the wiring harness aside.
- 20.
- Position the weatherstrip aside.
- Release the clips and remove the RH front door scuff plate panel.
- Release the clips and remove the lower RH cowl trim panel.
- 21.
- Position aside the RH front carpet.
- Detach the retainer, remove the bolt and position the wiring harness aside.
- 22.NOTE: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected, or damage to the clockspring may result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, remove and recenter the clockspring. REFER to CLOCKSPRING
Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt and disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering gear.
Torque
: 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)

Remove the bolts.Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- 2.
Remove the bolts and the instrument panel center brace.Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- 1.
- 30.
On both sides. Remove the A-pillar to in-vehicle cross beam support bolt.Torque
: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- 31.NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out the following steps.NOTE: RH side shown, LH side similar.NOTE: Remove the bolts from one side completely and support the instrument panel before removing the bolts from the opposite side.
Remove the instrument panel support bolts.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
