Upper Arm: Removal

NOTE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. New parts must be installed with the same part numbers or equivalent part, if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.

Remove the spring. Refer to: Spring .

2.

Finger tight only. Position the lower arm and install the lower arm-to-trailing arm bolt and nut.

Remove and discard the rear shock absorber lower bolt.

NOTE: Fabricate a spacer.

NOTE: Focus, Focus-BEV and Focus-ST require different length spacers.

  Focus, Focus-BEV. Measure the length as per the specifications.
- 2.
  
  Focus-ST. Measure the length as per the specifications.

Support the rear suspension and position the correct spacer.
Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

Remove and discard the upper arm-to-trailing arm bolt and position the brake hose bracket aside.

NOTE: Note the position of the upper control arm to aid installation.

Remove and discard the upper arm-to-rear subframe bolt and remove the upper arm.
