Fuel Pump and Sender Unit: Removal

Remove the Fuel Tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank .
- 2.NOTE: Clean the fuel pump and sender unit connections, couplings, flange surfaces and the immediate surrounding area of any dirt or foreign material.
- Detach the vapor tube.
- Disconnect the quick release coupling and the fuel feed jumper tube.
- Remove and discard the nuts and remove the fuel pump and sender unit helmet.
Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- 3.NOTE: Carefully install the lock ring wrench to avoid damaging the fuel pump and sender unit when removing the lock ring.NOTE: The fuel pump and sender unit must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm.NOTE: The fuel pump and sender unit will have residual fuel remaining internally, drain into a suitable container.NOTE: Inspect the mating surfaces of the fuel pump and sender unit flange and the fuel tank O-ring seal contact surfaces. Do not polish or adjust the O-ring seal contact area of the fuel tank flange or the fuel tank. Install a new fuel pump and sender unit or fuel tank if the O-ring seal contact area is bent, scratched or corroded.
Using the lock ring wrench, rotate the lock ring counterclockwise and remove the fuel pump and sender unit lock ring. Remove the fuel pump and sender unit from the fuel tank. Use Special Service Tool: 310-123 Locking Ring, Fuel Tank.
