Pinpoint Test AE : The Chime Always Sounds

  1. AE1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) FOR MESSAGE CENTER MESSAGES

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Check the IPC and message center for illuminated warning indicator or message center displays.

    Does the IPC have any message center messages displayed? 

    Yes  REPAIR all message center indication concerns first. REFER to Symptom Chart: IPC or Symptom Chart: Information And Message Center in Symptom Chart(s) .
    No  GO to  AE2
  2. AE2 CHECK THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

    • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
    • Close all doors.
    • Wait one minute.
    • Observe the exterior lights.

    Are the headlamps and parking lamps off? 

    Yes  GO to  AE3
    No  REFER to: HEADLAMPS . Refer to: PARKING, REAR AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS .
  3. AE3 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

    • Open and close the driver door.
    • Observe the interior lights.

    Do the interior lights operate correctly from the driver door? 

    Yes  GO to  AE4
    No  REFER to: INTERIOR LIGHTING .
  4. AE4 CHECK THE PRNDL OPERATION

    • Apply the parking brake.
    • Move the selector lever through all the ranges while observing the PRNDL.

    Does the PRNDL operate correctly and display the correct position matching the selector lever position? 

    Yes  GO to  AE5
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test L 
  5. AE5 PERFORM THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) SELF-TEST

    • Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
