Battery Disconnect and Connect

Disconnect

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and connected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven to allow the PCM to relearn the adaptive strategy values.

Disconnecting the battery ground cable to interrupt power to the vehicle electrical system only

NOTE: The following 2 steps are for disconnecting the battery ground cable to interrupt power to the vehicle electrical system, disconnect the battery ground cable body ground stud bolt only. It is not necessary to disconnect the positive battery cable.

1.

Remove the bolt and position the negative battery cable.
Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

Using electrical tape, cover the negative battery cable terminal.

NOTE: The cowl panel is removed for clarity only.

Release the tabs and remove the battery covers.

NOTE: Cover the positive battery terminal while removing the negative battery cable clamp to prevent damage from a short to the positive terminal.

Loosen the nut and remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal post.

Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

5.

Loosen the nut and remove the positive battery cable from the battery terminal post.
Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

Connect

1.

To connect, reverse the disconnect procedure.

2.

For vehicles with window one-touch up, perform the window motor initialization. Refer to: Power Door Window Initialization - Vehicles With: One-Touch Open and Close Front Windows .
