Fuel Pump: Removal

Remove the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank .
- 3.NOTE: Clean the Fuel Pump (FP) module connections, couplings, flange surfaces and the immediate surrounding area of any dirt or foreign material.
Detach the fuel vapor tube, disconnect the fuel supply tube-to-Fuel Pump (FP) module quick connect coupling. Remove and discard the 3 fuel tank shield nuts and remove the fuel tank shield. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .
Torque
: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- 4.NOTE: Carefully install the lock ring wrench to avoid damaging the Fuel Pump (FP) module when removing the lock ring.NOTE: The Fuel Pump (FP) module must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm.NOTE: The Fuel Pump (FP) module will have residual fuel remaining internally, drain into a suitable container.NOTE: Inspect the mating surfaces of the Fuel Pump (FP) module flange and the fuel tank O-ring seal contact surfaces. Do not polish or adjust the O-ring seal contact area of the fuel tank flange or the fuel tank. Install a new Fuel Pump (FP) module or fuel tank if the O-ring seal contact area is bent, scratched or corroded.
Using the lock ring wrench, rotate the lock ring counterclockwise and remove the Fuel Pump (FP) module lock ring. Remove the Fuel Pump (FP) module from the fuel tank.
Use Special Service Tool: 310-123 Locking Ring, Fuel Tank.
