Pinpoint Test E: The Tachometer Is Inoperative
- E1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes
: For DTC U0100:00, GO to PINPOINT TEST AC
For DTC U0140:00, GO to PINPOINT TEST AF
For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: IPC in this service information.
- No : GO to E2
- E2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : Refer to ENGINE CONTROLS - INTRODUCTION (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID) (SECTION 0) .
- No : GO to E3
- E3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .
- No : GO to E4
- E4 CHECK THE TACHOMETER OPERATION USING THE DEALER TEST MODE
- Ignition ON.
- Monitor the tachometer.
- Ignition OFF.
- Enter the Dealer Test Mode. Enter the Dealer Test Mode.
REFER to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) - SYSTEM OPERATION AND COMPONENT DESCRIPTION .
- Scroll to gauge sweep.
- Monitor the tachometer when the gauge sweep initiates.
Does the tachometer start at 0 rpm, move to 8, 000 rpm and return to 0 rpm?
- Yes
: INSTALL a new PCM
.
REFER to: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
- No
: INSTALL a new IPC
.
REFER to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
