Pinpoint Test Bi: A Low Washer Fluid Level Display Is Never Or Always On

  1. BI1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION 
    • Close all doors.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Open the driver front door and observe the message center operation.

    Does the message center display the driver door ajar message? 

    1. Yes  : GO to BI2 
    2. No  : GO to PINPOINT TEST A 
  2. BI2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCS FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the IPC  self-test.

    Are any DTC recorded? 

    1. Yes  : For DTC U0140:00, GO to PINPOINT TEST AF 

      For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC CHART: IPC  in this service information.

    2. No  : GO to BI3 
  3. BI3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCS FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the BCM  self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes  : For DTC B1177:13, GO to BI4 

      For all other DTCs,

      REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .

    2. No  : GO to  BI7
  4. BI4 CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID INDICATOR OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Sensor.
    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Lead 1 Measurement/Action Lead 2
      C138-2  FUSED JUMPER WIRE Ground
    • Ignition ON.
    • Wait one minute.
    • Observe the message center low washer fluid display.

    Does the low washer fluid message turn off? 

    1. Yes  : REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to BI5 
    2. No  : REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  BI6
  5. BI5 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C138-1  OHM Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new washer fluid level sensor or reservoir as necessary.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  6. BI6 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Sensor.
    • Disconnect: BCM  C2280A.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C138-2  OHM C2280A-13 

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : GO to  BI9
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  7. BI7 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID SWITCH 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Wait one minute.
    • Observe the message center low washer fluid display.

    Does the message center turn off the low washer fluid message? 

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new washer fluid level sensor or reservoir as necessary.

      REFER to: WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR .

    2. No  : GO to BI8 
  8. BI8 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: BCM  C2280A.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C138-2  OHM Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : GO to BI9 
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  9. BI9 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM  connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the BCM  connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes  : CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB  exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB  instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM  .

      REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .

    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
