INFORMATION AND MESSAGE CENTER SYMPTOM CHART

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The message center is not operating correctly
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The message center display is blank
  • IPC 
  • VERIFY the IPC  gauges and indicators are functioning correctly.
    • If the IPC  gauges and indicators are not  functioning correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
    • If the IPC  gauges and indicators are functioning correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The compass display is inoperative
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The outside air temperature display is inoperative or incorrect
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The adaptive cruise control/cruise control message center indicator is never on
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The charging system message center warning indicator is never or always on
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The door-liftgate ajar message center warning indicator is never or always on
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The engine over-temperature message center warning indicator is never or always on
  • PCM concern
  • IPC 
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY the door ajar message center warning indicator functions correctly.
    • If the door ajar message center warning indicator does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the door ajar message center warning indicator functions correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST D  to diagnose the temperature gauge.
  • The grade assist message center indicator is never or always on
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The low fuel message center warning indicator is never or always on
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The low oil pressure message center warning indicator is never or always on
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The low washer fluid message center indicator is never or always on
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The powertrain malfunction (wrench) message center warning indicator is never or always on
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • An active park assist message is never displayed

  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, REFER to ACTIVE PARK ASSIST .
  • An AWD  message is never or always displayed
  • Message center concern
  • All-Wheel Drive (AWD) concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
  • An adaptive cruise control system warning message is always displayed
  • Adaptive cruise control indication concern
  • Cruise control indication concern
  • Adaptive cruise control concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST Z  to diagnose the adaptive cruise control message center indicator.
  • The adaptive cruise control gap and speed settings are never displayed
  • Message center concern
  • Adaptive cruise control concern
  • NOTE: Verify the adaptive cruise control is enabled or turned on through the message center settings.
  • RETRIEVE the IPC  DTCs.
  • A BLIS®  or CTA  system message is never or always displayed
  • Message center concern
  • BLIS®  or CTA  system concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, REFER to SIDE AND REAR VISION to diagnose the BLIS®  or CTA  system.
  • A brake warning message (check brake system, park brake engaged or brake fluid level low) is never or always displayed
  • Brake warning indication concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST L  (never on) or GO to PINPOINT TEST M  (always on) to diagnose the brake system warning indicator.
  • The check fuel inlet message is never or always displayed
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • A door-liftgate ajar warning message is never or always displayed
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • The factory mode message is always displayed
  • Vehicle still in factory mode
  • NOTE: This vehicle automatically defaults to normal operation mode after 60 ignition cycles.
  • CARRY OUT the procedure to place the vehicle in normal operation mode. REFER to Disable Transport or Factory Mode in MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
  • A forward collision warning system message is inoperative or always on
  • Message center concern
  • Forward collision warning system concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, REFER to COLLISION AVOIDANCE to diagnose the forward collision warning system.
  • The DTE  /average fuel economy display is inoperative
  • IPC 
  • CHECK the operation of the speedometer, the fuel gauge and the odometer.
  • An engine oil change message is never displayed
  • Message center concern
  • The PCM has not reached the programmed mileage/time based on the criteria required to display the message.
  • NOTE: Using the system check in the message center, verify that the oil life is between 1 and 5% for the ENGINE OIL CHANGE SOON message or at 0% for the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message.
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY the DRIVER DOOR AJAR warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR warning functions correctly with the oil life between 0-5%, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR warning functions correctly with the oil life not  at the specified value, INFORM the customer how the message center functions and how the oil life messages are set.
  • An engine oil change message is always displayed
  • The oil life needs reset
  • CARRY OUT the oil life reset procedure using the message center controls. REFER to the Owner's Literature.
  • An IA  message (press brake to start, accessory power active or starting system fault) is never or always displayed
  • Message center concern
  • IA  starting system concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly and the vehicle functions in all ignition modes.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES to diagnose a starting or accessory power concern.
  • An IA  message (no key detected/restart now or key is needed) is never or always displayed
  • Message center concern
  • IA  concern
  • A load management message is always displayed
  • Charging/load management system concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning and the IA  system function correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, REFER to CHARGING SYSTEM to diagnose the charging/load management system.
  • The low washer fluid message is never or always displayed
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Washer fluid level switch
  • IPC 
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST AF  to diagnose the low washer fluid message center indicator.
  • A MyKey® menu is not available or is incorrect
  • MyKey® programmed key in use
  • Number of keys set to unlimited mode
  • Non-Ford approved remote start system installed
  • NOTE: MyKey® may not be compatible with non-Ford approved remote start systems
  • REFER to the Owner's Literature.
  • A parking aid malfunction or informational parking aid message is never or always displayed
  • Message center concern
  • Parking aid system concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, Refer to the appropriate Electrical Instrumentation and Warning Systems article for the procedure.
  • The shift to park message is never or always displayed (IA  only)
  • Refer to the Diagnostic Routine
  • A stability-traction control warning message is never or always displayed
  • Message center concern
  • Stability-traction control indication concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY the DRIVER DOOR AJAR warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR warning functions correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST O  to diagnose the stability-traction control indicator.
  • The steering column lock message is never or always displayed
  • Message center concern
  • Steering column system concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, REFER to STEERING COLUMN to diagnose the steering column lock system.
  • A steering malfunction (EPAS  ) message is never or always displayed
  • Message center concern
  • EPAS  system concern
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, REFER to STEERING SYSTEM to diagnose the EPAS  system.
  • A tire training message (train left front, right front, left rear or right rear tire) is always displayed
  • TPMS  warning indication concern
  • TPMS  sensor training
  • NOTE: These messages only appear during the TPMS  sensor training procedure. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
  • VERIFY that the TPMS  warning indicator functions.
    • If the TPMS  warning indicator does not  operate, GO to PINPOINT TEST T .
    • If the TPMS  warning indicator operates, CARRY OUT the TPMS  sensor training. REFER to WHEELS AND TIRES .
  • The tires not trained message is always displayed
  • TPMS  sensor training concern
  • The trailer sway message is never or always displayed
  • ABS concern
  • IPC 
  • OPEN then CLOSE the driver door and VERIFY that the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly.
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning does not  function correctly, INSTALL a new IPC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    • If the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message center warning functions correctly, REFER to GO to PINPOINT TEST O  to diagnose the stability-traction control indicator (sliding car icon).
  • The training complete message is never displayed
  • TPMS  sensor training incomplete
  • The transport mode message is always displayed
  • Vehicle still in transport mode
  • NOTE: The vehicle automatically defaults to normal operation mode when the mileage reaches 125 miles (200 km)
  • CARRY OUT the procedure to place the vehicle in normal operation mode. REFER to Disable Transport or Factory Mode in MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
  • The TPMS  malfunction warning is never or always displayed
  • TPMS  warning indication concern
  • TPMS  concern
  • VERIFY that the TPMS  warning indicator operates.
