Removal And Installation

WARNING:
Always disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery before disconnecting the starter motor battery terminal lead. If a tool is shorted at the starter motor battery terminal, the tool can quickly heat enough to cause a skin burn. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- 1.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- 2.
Disconnect the batteries. For additional information, refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT
- 3.
Remove the RH fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
- 4.
Disconnect the electrical connectors and position the wiring harness aside.
NOTE:
A protective cap or boot is provided over the battery input terminal on all vehicle lines and must be installed after repairing.

Remove the starter motor cable cap.
- 6.

Remove the nut and disconnect the starter motor solenoid battery cable.- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
- 2.
Remove the nut and disconnect the starter motor solenoid control wire.- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

- 7.
Remove the nut and position the wiring harness aside.- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
- 8.
If equipped, disconnect the block heater cord.
NOTE:
Install the 3 starter motor bolts finger tight. Tighten the top starter motor bolt, then tighten the 2 remaining starter motor bolts.

Remove the bolts.- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

Remove the bolts and the starter motor.- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
