Pinpoint Test A : Both Heated Rear Seats Are Inoperative

  1. A1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED REAR SEAT MODULE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect Heated Rear Seat Module C3304B .
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A2
    No  If equipped with the snow plow package, GO to  A7
    If not equipped with the snow plow package, VERIFY BJB fuse 20 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  2. A2 CHECK FOR IGNITION VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED REAR SEAT MODULE

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A3
    No  VERIFY BCM fuse 36 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  3. A3 CHECK THE HEATED REAR SEAT MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A4
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  4. A4 VERIFY THE HEATED REAR SEAT SWITCH IS PROVIDING A GROUND INPUT SIGNAL TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE

    • Disconnect Heated Rear Seat Module C3304A .
    • While pressing and releasing the left heated rear seat switch, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms when the switch is pressed and greater than 10, 000 ohms when released? 

    Yes  GO to  A6
    No  GO to  A5
  5. A5 CHECK THE HEATED REAR SEAT SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect Heated Rear Seat Switch C3182 .
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new heated rear seat switch. REFER to: Heated Rear Seat Switch - SuperCrew .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. A6 CHECK THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 300 and 300K ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new heated rear seat module. REFER to: Heated Rear Seat Module - SuperCrew .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. A7 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SNOWPLOW RELAY

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Snowplow Relay.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the voltages greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A8
    No  VERIFY BJB fuse 20 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  8. A8 CHECK THE SNOWPLOW RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    NOTE: The following step uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector.

    • Start the engine.
    • Connect a test light between:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Snowplow Relay, socket pin 1

    Does the test light illuminate? 

    Yes  GO to  A10
    No  GO to  A9
  9. A9 CHECK THE SNOWPLOW RELAY

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Carry out the Relay - Mini ISO component test on the snowplow relay. Refer to Component Testing for schematic and connector information.

    Did the snowplow relay pass the component test? 

    Yes  REPAIR circuit CBB20 (YE/VT) for an open.
    No  INSTALL a new snowplow relay.
  10. A10 CHECK THE SNOWPLOW RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DISCONNECTED

    NOTE: The following step uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector.

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Connect a test light between:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Snowplow Relay, socket pin 1

    Does the test light illuminate? 

    Yes  REPAIR short to ground in circuit CAC16 (VT/OG).
    No  GO to  A11
  11. A11 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all the BCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the BCM connectors and all previously disconnected rear window defrost system connectors and components. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, Refer to BCM HARDWARE TESTING
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
