Transmission Fluid Level Check

Materials 

Name Specification
Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-10-QLVC MERCON ® LVWSS-M2C938-A

Check 

  1. 1.

    Start the engine and allow to run for 1 minute. Turn engine off and wait 5 minutes.

  1. 2.

    With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

  1. 3.

    Remove the screws, grommets and the engine front undershield.

  1. 4.

    Remove the screws and the engine undershield.

  1. 5.

    Rotate the steering wheel counter clockwise to access the oil leveling plug.

  1. 6.

    NOTE: The transmission fluid should be even with the bottom of the oil leveling plug hole.

    Remove the oil leveling plug and check the transmission fluid level.

Adding Additional Transmission Fluid 

NOTE: The following procedure uses the Mityvac MITMV6412 ATF Refill System.

  1. 7.

    Select adapter MVA585 (M10 X 1.0) and install into oil leveling plug hole hand tight.

  1. 8.

    Fill the transmission with transmission fluid.

    1. 1.

      Fill the Mityvac MITMV6412 with transmission fluid.

      Material: Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (MERCON ® LV) (WSS-M2C938-A)

    1. 2.

      Connect the Mityvac MITMV6412.

    1. 3.

      Follow the manufacturer instructions to dispense the fluid into the transmission.

  1. 9.

    1. 1.

      Release the pressure.

    1. 2.

      Allow all excess fluid to drain back into the canister, then remove the Mityvac MITMV6412.

  1. 10.

    Install the oil leveling plug.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    Install the engine undershield and the screws.

    Install the engine front undershield, grommets and the screws.
