The Chime Always Sounds

  1. AV1 CHECK THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) FOR MESSAGE CENTER MESSAGES 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Check the IPC  and message center for illuminated warning indicator or message center displays.

    Does the IPC have any message center indicators illuminated or message center messages displayed? 

    1. Yes  : REPAIR all message center indication concerns first. REFER to Symptom Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)  or SYMPTOM CHART: INFORMATION AND MESSAGE CENTER .
    2. No  : GO to AV2 
  2. AV2 CHECK THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION 
    • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
    • Close all doors.
    • Wait one minute.
    • Observe the exterior lights.

    Are the headlamps and parking lamps off? 

    1. Yes  : GO to AV3 
    2. No  : REFER to: HEADLAMPS .

      REFER to: PARKING, REAR AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS .

  3. AV3 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION 
    • Open and close the driver door.
    • Observe the interior lights.

    Do the interior lights operate correctly from the driver door? 

    1. Yes  : GO to AV4 
    2. No  : REFER to: INTERIOR LIGHTING - SYSTEM OPERATION AND COMPONENT DESCRIPTION .
  4. AV4 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM  self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes  : REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .
    2. No  : GO to AV5 
  5. AV5 CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) INPUT PIDS FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH 
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the BCM  Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    • Select and monitor the BCM  ignition switch (IGN_SW_ACC), (IGN_SW_RUN) and (IGN_SW_KEY_IN) Parameter Identifications (PIDs) while cycling the ignition switch through the ACC, OFF, and RUN states.

    Do the BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs) match the ignition switch position? 

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new IPC  .

      REFER to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  .

    2. No  : For ignition RUN or ACC concerns, DIAGNOSE the ignition switch outputs to the BCM  .

      REFER to: STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS .

      For key-in-ignition concern, GO to AV6 

  6. AV6 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE AT THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect BCM C2280G  .
    • Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C2280G-38  VOLTAGE Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    1. Yes  : GO to AV7 
    2. No  : GO to  AV9
  7. AV7 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH DISCONNECTED 
    • Disconnect Ignition Switch C250  .
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C2280G-38  VOLTAGE Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit.
    2. No  : GO to AV8 
  8. AV8 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH OPERATION 

    Does the ignition switch pass the component test? 

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new ignition lock cylinder housing.

      REFER to: IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER HOUSING .

    2. No  : INSTALL a new ignition switch.

      REFER to: IGNITION SWITCH .

  9. AV9 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM  connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the BCM  connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes  : CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB  exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB  instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM  .

      REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .

    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
