C0040:64, C0044:28

  1. C1 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH AND BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION
    • Inspect the stoplamp switch and brake pedal assembly, verify there is no brake pedal pressure unintentionally applied due to incorrect stoplamp switch or brake pedal installation.

      REFER to: STOPLAMP SWITCH .

REFER to: BRAKE PEDAL AND BRACKET .

Are the stoplamp switch and brake pedal assembly installed correctly?

    1. Yes  : GO to C2
    2. No  : REINSTALL the stoplamp switch or brake pedal assembly.

      REFER to: STOPLAMP SWITCH .

REFER to: BRAKE PEDAL AND BRACKET .

  2. C2 CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) BPP (BRAKE PEDAL POSITION) (BOO1) PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION (PID)
    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the PCM  BOO1 Parameter Identification (PID) while pressing and releasing the brake pedal.

Does the Parameter Identification (PID) reflect the brake pedal movement?

    1. Yes  : GO to C3
    2. No  : DIAGNOSE the BPP  switch.

      REFER to: STOPLAMPS .

  3. C3 CHECK THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE BRAKE ON/OFF (BOO_ABS) PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION (PID)
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the ABS  module BOO_ABS Parameter Identification (PID) while pressing and releasing the brake pedal.

Does the Parameter Identification (PID) reflect the brake pedal movement?

    1. Yes  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC  may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
    2. No  : GO to C4
  4. C4 CHECK THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the ABS  module self-test.
    • Retrieve and record all ABS  module Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Are any communication (U-code) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?

    1. Yes  : GO to the DTC CHART: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE .
    2. No  : GO to C5
  5. C5 CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the PCM  KOEO self-test.
    • Retrieve and record all PCM  Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Are any PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?

    1. Yes  : GO to the DTC  Chart: Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

      REFER to: ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 1.6L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS) - Sigma .

      REFER to: ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4 .

REFER to: ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 2.5L Duratec (125kW/170PS) .

    2. No  : GO to C6
  6. C6 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE TO HCU (HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT) FASTENER TORQUE VALUES
    • Verify all ABS  module-to-HCU  fasteners are tightened to their correct torque specifications.

Are the ABS module-to- HCU fasteners tightened correctly

    1. Yes  : GO to  C8
    2. No  : TIGHTEN all ABS  module-to-HCU  fasteners to their specified torque value. GO to C7
  7. C7 CHECK FOR RETURNING ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the ABS  module Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the ABS  module self-test.

Is DTC C0040:64 or C0044:28 present?

    1. Yes  : GO to C8
    2. No  : The condition that caused the concern has been repaired. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
  8. C8 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE OPERATION
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect ABS  module C135  .
    • Repair:

corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)

damaged or bent pins - install new terminals or pins

pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Connect ABS  module C135  . Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

    1. Yes  : CHECK OASIS  for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB  exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB  instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new ABS  module and HCU  assembly.

REFER to: HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU)  .

    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
