- R1 CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAKS
- Start the engine.
- Inspect the vacuum hose and each hose connection from the vacuum pump to the brake booster for leaks.
Are any vacuum leaks found?
- Yes : REPAIR the vacuum leak or INSTALL new components as necessary.
- No
: If the vehicle is equipped with a 1.6L EcoBoost engine or a 2.0L EcoBoost engine, GO to R2
If the vehicle is equipped with a 2.5L Duratec engine, INSTALL a new brake booster. REFER to: BRAKE BOOSTER .
- R2 CHECK THE VACUUM PUMP OUTPUT
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster.
- Connect a vacuum gauge to the vacuum hose.
- Start the engine.
- Monitor the vacuum gauge.
Does the vacuum gauge display greater than 600 mBar (18 In-Hg)?
- Yes
: INSTALL a new brake booster.

- No
: INSTALL a new vacuum pump.
REFER to: BRAKE VACUUM PUMP - 1.6L ECOBOOST (132KW/180PS) - SIGMA .
REFER to: BRAKE VACUUM PUMP - 2.0L ECOBOOST (184KW/250PS) - MI4 .
