Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The RCM monitors the passenger front door and second row LH side impact sensors and circuits for the following faults:
- Open circuit
- Short to voltage
- Short to ground
- Faulted passenger front door side impact sensor
- Faulted second row LH side impact sensor
NOTE:
A short to ground on either impact sensor feed circuit sets DTC B0097:11. A short to voltage on either impact sensor feed circuit sets DTC B0097:93.
If a fault is detected, the RCM stores DTC B0091:81, B0097:11, B0097:81 or B0097:93 in memory and sends a message to the IPC to illuminate the airbag warning indicator.
The RCM communicates with each impact sensor. If the RCM is unable to communicate with the sensor, a DTC is stored in memory. A Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (CMDTC) no operation (failure type: 93) can be set by a short to voltage on the return circuit of the impact sensor.
When the feed circuit of either impact sensor is shorted to voltage, an invalid data received fault (failure type: 81) may also be present for both sensors.
NOTE:
Restraints Sensor 1 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) set for the second row (C-pillar) side impact sensor circuits. Restraints Sensor 2 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) set for the front door side impact sensor circuits.
DTC FAULT TRIGGER CONDITIONS
| DTC | Description | Fault Trigger Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| B0091:81 | Left Side Restraints Sensor 1: Invalid Serial Data Received | A fault is indicated when the RCM senses a faulted second row LH side impact sensor or an open second row LH side impact sensor circuit. |
| B0097:11 | Right Side Restraints Sensor 2: Circuit Short to Ground | A fault is indicated when the RCM senses a shorted passenger front door side impact sensor, a shorted second row LH side impact sensor, a short to ground on the passenger front door side impact sensor feed circuit or a short to ground on the second row LH side impact sensor feed circuit. |
| B0097:81 | Right Side Restraints Sensor 2: Invalid Serial Data Received | A fault is indicated when the RCM senses a faulted passenger front door side impact sensor or an open passenger front door side impact sensor circuit. |
| B0097:93 | Right Side Restraints Sensor 2: No Operation | A fault is indicated when the RCM senses a faulted second row LH side impact sensor or passenger front door side impact sensor, or a short to voltage on the feed or return circuit of the second row LH side impact sensor or passenger front door side impact sensor. |
