Pinpoint Test Aa: The Safety Belt Warning Or Belt-Minder® Chime Is Inoperative

  1. AA1 CHECK THE WARNING CHIME OPERATION 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Operate the hazard function.

    Does the hazard tick-tock tone sound? 

    1. Yes:  GO to AA2
    2. No:  GO to Pinpoint Test A 
  2. AA2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes:  For DTC U0140:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AF 

      For DTC U0151:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AG 

      For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC Chart: IPC  .

    2. No:  GO to AA3
  3. AA3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes:  REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .
    2. No:  GO to AA4
  4. AA4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE RCM (RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST 
    • Using a scan tool, perform the RCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    1. Yes:  REFER to: AIRBAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) - VEHICLES BUILT FROM: 11-JUNE-2012 .
    2. No:  GO to AA5
  5. AA5 CHECK THE DRIVER SAFETY BELT BUCKLE SWITCH 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, monitor the RCM driver safety belt buckle Parameter Identification (PID) (SBELT_D_ST) while buckling and unbuckling the driver safety belt.

    Does the Parameter Identification (PID) display BUCKLED with the safety belt buckled and UNBUCKLED with the safety belt unbuckled? 

    1. Yes:  GO to AA6
    2. No:  INSTALL a new safety belt buckle.

      REFER to: FRONT SAFETY BELT BUCKLE .

      If the safety belt warning chime is still inoperative, INSTALL a new RCM.

      REFER to: DRIVER AIRBAG .

  6. AA6 CHECK THE SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Within one minute, buckle then unbuckle, the driver front safety belt while monitoring the safety belt warning indicator.

    Does the safety belt warning indicator turn on when the safety belt is unbuckled and turn off when buckled? 

    1. Yes:  GO to AA7
    2. No:  GO to Pinpoint Test R 
  7. AA7 CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION 
    • Verify the speedometer operates.

    Does the speedometer operate? 

    1. Yes:  GO to AA8
    2. No:  GO to Pinpoint Test G 
  8. AA8 CHECK THE BELT-MINDER® CONFIGURATION 

    Is the Belt-Minder® activated for the seating position in question? 

    1. Yes:  If the Belt-Minder® is always on above with the safety belt unfastened, the system is operating normally.

      If the Belt-Minder® is always on with the safety belt fastened or never on with the safety belt unfastened above, INSTALL a new IPC.

      REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)  .

    2. No:  ACTIVATE the Belt-Minder® for the seating position in question.

      REFER to: Safety Belt Minder Deactivating/Activating  .
