Removal and Installation
- Drain the coolant. Refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - ELECTRONIC MANUAL TEMPERATURE CONTROL (EMTC) or CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - DUAL AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL (DATC) .

NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.
Remove the evaporator pipe nut and flange and position the pipe aside.

Clamp and disconnect the heater lines.
- Remove both front doors. Refer to BODY CLOSURES .
- Remove the transmission selector lever. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS .
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Position the weather strip aside and remove the LH side lower cowl trim panel and scuff plate.
- Position the carpet aside and remove the 2 LH side ground strap bolts.
- Position the weather strip aside and remove the RH side lower cowl trim panel and scuff plate.
- Position the carpet aside and remove the RH side ground strap bolt.

Remove the RH and LH instrument panel side finish panels.

NOTE: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected, or damage to the clockspring may result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, remove and recenter the clockspring. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt and disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering gear.
- Remove the lower RH side instrument panel insulator panel.
- Remove the 3 screws and remove the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) ducts.
- Remove the HVAC ducts.
- Disconnect the Restraints Control Module (RCM) electrical connector and the emergency brake electrical connector.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Remove the evaporator drain tube.
- Disconnect the 5 electrical connectors at lower RH side of the instrument panel.
- Remove the defroster grille panel. Refer to DEFROSTER GRILLE PANEL .
- Remove the 2 upper instrument panel cowl bolts.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the center instrument panel brace.

Remove the LH and RH instrument panel side bolts.

NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out the following steps.NOTE: Remove the bolts from one side completely and support the instrument panel before removing the bolts from the opposite side.
Remove the 4 LH and RH instrument panel-to-body bolts.

NOTE: Make sure not to damage the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.
Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
- Rotate the instrument panel face down and remove through the LH front door opening.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
