Drive Pinion Seal: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: The drive pinion seal is only serviceable on vehicles equipped with a stamped steel differential housing cover. Vehicles equipped with an aluminum differential housing cover replace the complete rear differential unit RDU assembly.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT .
  3. Using the Drive Pinion Flange Holding Fixture, hold the pinion flange and remove the pinion flange nut.
    • Discard the nut.

  4. Index-mark the location of the pinion flange to the yoke.

  5. Using the 2 Jaw Puller, remove the pinion flange.

  6. Using the Converter Seal Remover and Slide Hammer, remove and discard the drive pinion seal.
