Drive Pinion Seal: Removal

NOTE: The drive pinion seal is only serviceable on vehicles equipped with a stamped steel differential housing cover. Vehicles equipped with a aluminum differential housing cover replace the complete rear differential unit RDU assembly.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT .
Using the Drive Pinion Flange Holding Fixture, hold the pinion flange and remove the pinion flange nut.
- Discard the nut.

Index-mark the location of the pinion flange to the yoke.

Using the 2 Jaw Puller, remove the pinion flange.

Using the Converter Seal Remover and Slide Hammer, remove and discard the drive pinion seal.
