Upper Arm: Removal

NOTE: Suspension fasteners affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. If replacement is necessary install new parts with the same part numbers or equivalent part. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten the fasteners to specification during reassembly.
NOTE: Tighten the suspension bushing fasteners with the weight of the vehicle resting on the wheels and tires or incorrect clamp load and bushing damage may occur.
  1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
  2. Position a suitable jackstand under the lower control arm and raise the suspension.
  3. Remove the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) sensor bolt and position the ABS  sensor aside.
  4. Disconnect the 2 ABS  sensor harness clips from the upper control arm and position the ABS  sensor harness aside.
  5. Remove the parking brake cable-to-wheel knuckle bracket bolt and position aside the parking brake cable.
  6. Remove and discard the 2 upper control arm outboard bolts.
  7. Remove the 2 rear (1 each side) brake hose mounting bracket bolts.
  8. NOTE: Position a jackstand under the front of the vehicle to keep the vehicle from becoming unstable on the hoist.

    Position the lifting table under the rear subframe.

  9. NOTE: The upper arm inboard bolt cannot be removed without first lowering the subframe.

    Remove the 4 front (2 each side) bushing brace-to-body bolts.

  10. Remove and discard the 2 subframe forward bolts
  11. NOTE: The rear springs are under pressure. The jack must be lowered slowly while relieving the spring pressure or component damage may occur.
    NOTE: The upper arm inboard bolt cannot be removed without first lowering the subframe.

    Remove and discard the 2 subframe rearward bolts and lower the subframe.

  12. Remove and discard the upper control arm inboard bolt and nut.
  13. Remove the upper control arm assembly.
