Removal And Installation: Transaxle: Removal

All vehicles 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. NOTE: Do not allow the steering column to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected, or damage to the clockspring may occur. If there is evidence that the steering column has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    Steering wheel in straight ahead position.

    General equipment: Steering Wheel Holder.

  3. NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the ACL  outlet pipe from the ACL  . Remove the ACL  and the ACL  outlet pipe as an assembly.

    Remove the ACL  assembly and ACL  outlet pipe. Refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING .

  4. Remove the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .

  11. NOTE: Do not use tools with sharp edges to remove the fuel supply tube or the fuel vapor tube from the retainer. Tools with sharp edges can damage the tubes causing a fuel leak.
    NOTE: Note the position and orientation of the fuel tubes in the retainer for assembly. The fuel vapor tube is in the top groove of the retainer and the fuel supply tube is in the bottom groove of the retainer.

  15. Special Tool(s): Eye, Engine Lift 303-1245.

  16. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to ENGINE -3.5L .
  17. Special Tool(s): Support Bar, Engine 303-F072, Bar, Engine Spreader 303-1454.

  20. Drain transmission fluid.

    • Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

  24. Remove the subframe. Refer to UNI-BODY, SUBFRAME AND MOUNTING SYSTEM .
  25. NOTE: It is not necessary to separate the RH halfshaft from the intermediate shaft when removing the intermediate shaft. Remove the intermediate shaft and the RH halfshaft as an assembly.

    Remove the LH front halfshaft and the intermediate shaft. Refer to FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS .

    AWD vehicles 

  27. Index-mark the driveshaft. Marker. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.

  28. Remove the RH catalytic converter. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .

  32. Turn the component CW  120 degrees 3 times. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.

  34. Special Tool(s): Disconnect Tool, Transmission Cooler Line 307-569.

  35. Special Tool(s): Adapter, Transmission Jack 209-00152.

    General equipment: Transmission jack.

  41. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.

  46. If the transmission is to be overhauled or if installing a new transmission, carry out TRANSMISSION FLUID EXCHANGE . Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID EXCHANGE .
