Pinpoint Test BB: U0420:82

BB1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN
- Ignition ON.
- Verify there is an observable symptom present.
Is an observable symptom present?
- Yes : GO to BB2
- No : The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
BB2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.
Does the PSCM pass the network test?
- Yes : GO to BB3
- No : REFER to: COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
BB3 PERFORM THE RECORDED BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) MODULE SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .
- No : GO to BB4
BB4 PERFORM THE RECORDED PSCM (POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PSCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : REFER to: POWER STEERING .
- No : GO to BB5
BB5 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : REFER to DTC CHART: IPC .
- No : GO to BB6
BB6 RECHECK THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI), or the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) may not have been carried out.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Repeat the IPC self-test.
Is DTC U0420:82 still present?
- Yes : GO to BA8
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
BB7 CHECK FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) U0131:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the continuous memory self-test.
- Retrieve the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.
Is DTC U0131:00 set in the BCM ?
- Yes : INSTALL a new BCM . CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REPEAT the IPC self-test. If DTC U0420:82 returns, INSTALL a new power steering gear.
  REFER to: STEERING GEAR .
- No : INSTALL a new IPC .
  REFER to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
