Removal and Installation

Both Engines
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
- Disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
6.2L Engine
- Remove the block heater.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
6.8L Engine
- Loosen the block heater retaining screw and remove the block heater.
- To install, tighten to 4 Nm (35 lb-in).
Both Engines
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
NOTE:
Do not loosen the block heater retaining screw more than necessary for removal. The nut can fall off inside the engine and damage the cooling system.
NOTE:
Route the block heater power cable away from hot or rotating components, or the cable can be damaged.
NOTE:
For 6.8L engines, clean the engine block mating surface with metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
