Removal and Installation

  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
  2. Remove the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to ENGINE - 6.7L DIESEL .
    3. NOTE: Do not remove the retainers from the coolant crossover. The retainers are inserted into threaded holes. If it is necessary to remove the retainers, first detach the hoses, then unscrew the retainers. Failure to follow these instructions may damage the retainers.
  3. Detach the fuel return hose and the vacuum hose assembly from the retainers.
  4. Remove the bolt and position the engine wiring harness aside.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
    5. NOTE: The quick connect coupling illustrated is to show the spring clip release location only. The quick connect coupling on the hose may differ.

  5. Pull the upper radiator hose spring clip up until the end of the clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling and disconnect the upper radiator hose from the coolant crossover.
    • To install, push the spring clip in place and connect the upper radiator hose quick connect coupling, making sure the coupling is secure.
  6. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
  7. Remove the LH fuel tube bracket bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  8. Release the clamp and disconnect the turbocharger coolant outlet hose.
  9. Remove the RH fuel tube bracket bolt.
  10. Remove the 2 bolts and detach the heater inlet tube from the coolant crossover.
    • Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
    • To install, use a new O-ring seal and lubricate it with clean engine coolant.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  11. Remove the 7 bolts, the coolant crossover and the gaskets.
    • Discard the gaskets.
    • To install, use new gaskets.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    13. NOTE: Evaluate the cooling system condition before filling the cooling system. Failure to follow these instructions can damage the engine.
