   With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

   NOTE: RH shown in illustration, LH similar.

   Index-mark the hood hinge location to aid in hood installation.

   Remove the nuts and the hood.

   Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .

   Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

   Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING .

   Remove the following items:
   NOTE: It is not necessary to separate the air cleaner outlet pipe and the air cleaner, the 2 components can be removed as an assembly.
   • Refer to: AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE .
   • Refer to: AIR CLEANER .
   • Refer to: DEGAS BOTTLE .
   • Refer to: COOLING MODULE - 5.0L 32V Ti-VCT.

   Disconnect the A/C pressure transducer electrical connector.

   Remove the nut and disconnect the A/C tube.
   • Discard the O-ring seal and gasket.

   Disconnect the heater hoses and detach the retainers from the RH valve cover.

   NOTE: If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.
   NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the throttle body during the intake removal procedure.

   Remove the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .

   Release the clamps and disconnect the hose.

      Remove the PCV tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .

      Release the spring clip and remove the coolant bypass T assembly from the engine.

      Depress the tab and detach the wiring harness retainer from the oil pan.

      Slide the wiring harness retainer off of the engine front cover stud bolt.

   Disconnect the LHHO2S and catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
   • Detach the wiring harness retainers.

      Rotate the transmission electrical connector.

      Pull the transmission electrical connector out to disconnect.

      Disconnect the RHHO2S and catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.

      Slide the wire out of the retainer.

      Detach the retainers and position the wiring harness aside.

   • Separate the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter from the exhaust manifolds.

   Remove and discard the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe bolts and separate.
   • Clean all of the exhaust mating surfaces.

   NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine mount nuts, stud bolts or damage to the engine mount can occur.

   Remove and discard the RH engine mount nuts and stud bolts.

   NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine mount through bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket can occur.

   Remove and discard the LH engine mount through bolt.

   Loosen the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts.

   Support the bellhousing of the transmission with a suitable floor jack and a block of wood.

   Using the Heavy Duty Floor Crane, raise the engine assembly to gain access to the LH engine mount bolts.

   NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the engine mount-to-frame bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-frame nut plate can occur.

   Remove and discard the LH engine mount-to-frame bolts.
