  1. 1.

    With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

  1. 2.

    Index-mark the hood hinge location.

    Remove the 4 bolts and the hood.

    Remove the engine appearance cover.

  1. 5.

    Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .

  1. 6.

    Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

  1. 7.

    Remove the cooling module. Refer to: COOLING MODULE .

  1. 8.

    Disconnect the electrical connector and the wire retainer. Disconnect the quick connect coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .

  1. 9.

    Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC-to-TB (throttle body) pipe.

    1. 1.

      Disconnect the PCV pressure sensor electrical connector.

    1. 2.

      Disconnect the PCV tube quick connect couplings and remove the tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

    Disconnect the quick connect couplings and the turbocharger bypass tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .

    Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger. Disconnect the turbocharger inlet tube from the grommet and remove the turbocharger inlet tube.

    If equipped, disconnect the block heater and the wire retainers.

    Loosen the clamps. Disconnect the turbocharger outlet tube from the bracket grommet and remove the turbocharger outlet tube.

    Disconnect the battery positive cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

    Disconnect the turbocharger inlet tube hose.

    Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger. Disconnect the turbocharger inlet tube from the grommet and remove the turbocharger inlet tube.

    • Disconnect the turbocharger outlet tube hose.
    • Loosen the clamps. Disconnect the turbocharger outlet tube from the bracket grommet and remove the turbocharger outlet tube.

    Disconnect and remove the air bypass tube assembly from the CAC.

    • Remove the nut and disconnect the A/C tube.
    • Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
    • Disconnect the A/C pressure switch.

    Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector and wire retainers.

    Remove the nut and position out the transmission cooler tube bracket. Position out the engine wiring harness.

    Disconnect the generator wiring harness from the engine front cover.

    • Position back the boot and remove the generator nut.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector and the wiring retainer.

    Remove the following items:

    Disconnect the PCM electrical connector, electrical connector and the wire harness retainer.

    If equipped, disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the rear of the RH valve cover.

    Disconnect and position aside the vacuum pump tube.

    Disconnect the degas bottle hose at the thermostat.

    Disconnect the heater hose and position the degas bottle hose aside. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    Remove the nuts and position aside the CAC tube bracket.

    Disconnect the coolant hoses at the oil cooler. Disconnect and remove the radiator hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    Disconnect the ground strap retainers. Remove the nut and the ground strap.

    NOTE: Index-mark the end of one torque converter stud and the flexplate for installation.
    NOTE: Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine clockwise.

    Remove and discard the torque converter nuts.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    • Remove and discard the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe bolts.
    • Position the catalytic converter assembly back.

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts or damage to the transmission mount can occur.

    Loosen the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts.

    Remove the oil pan plug and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    Torque

    : 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine mount nuts and studs or damage to the engine mount can occur.
    NOTE: The engine mount studs may come off with the nuts.

    Remove and discard the RH engine mount nuts. Remove the engine mount studs.

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening or tightening the engine mount through bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket can occur.

    Remove and discard the LH engine mount through bolt.

    NOTE: Do not support the transmission by the fluid pan, failure to follow instruction may result in serious damage to the transmission.

    Support the bellhousing of the transmission with a suitable floor jack and a block of wood. Use the General Equipment: Trolley Jack Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block

  1. 61.

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening or tightening the engine mount-to-frame bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-frame nut plate can occur.
    NOTE: Leave the LH engine mount in place.

    Remove and discard the LH engine mount bolts.

  1. 62.

    Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector at the left rear lifting bracket.

    NOTE: The use of a ratchet strap may be needed to level the engine.
    NOTE: Use a commercially available quick link on the right side between the lifting eye and the engine spreader bar.
    NOTE: Use a commercially available quick link on the chain to minimize the spread of the chain.
    • Install the engine spreader bar and the floor crane. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1246 Engine Spreader Bar. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
    • Using the floor crane and the engine spreader bar, lift the engine.

    Remove the LH engine mount.
