Valve Cover LH: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Ford F-150. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
NOTE: Installation of new spark plug seals or VCT seals is only required if seals are damaged.

  1. 1.

    Remove the engine appearance cover.

  1. 2.

    Release the fuel pressure. Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE

  1. 3.

    Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

    Remove the following items:

      Disconnect the PCV pressure sensor electrical connector.

    1. 2.

      Disconnect the PCV tube quick connect couplings and remove the tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .

  1. 6.

    Disconnect the quick connect couplings and the turbocharger bypass tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .

  1. 7.

    Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger. Disconnect the turbocharger inlet tube from the grommet and remove the turbocharger inlet tube.

  1. 8.

    If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector and the wire retainers.

  1. 9.

    Loosen the clamps. Disconnect the turbocharger outlet tube from the bracket grommet and remove the turbocharger outlet tube.

  1. 10.

    Remove the nuts and the CAC tube bracket.

  1. 11.

    Remove the high-pressure fuel pump. Refer to: HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP .

  1. 12.

    Remove the LH ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: IGNITION COIL-ON-PLUG .

  1. 13.

    Remove the oil level indicator.

  1. 14.

    Disconnect the vacuum hose from the LH turbocharger and detach the hose retainer.

  1. 15.

    • Disconnect the VCT sensor electrical connectors.
    • Detach the wiring harness retainers and position the harness aside.

  1. 16.

    NOTE: While removing the valve cover do not apply excessive force to the VCT oil control solenoid or damage may occur.
    NOTE: If the VCT oil control solenoid sticks to the VCT seal, carefully wiggle the valve cover until the bond breaks free or damage to the VCT seal and VCT oil control solenoid may occur.

    Loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.

  1. 17.

    Remove and discard the valve cover gasket.

    NOTE: Inspect the VCT oil control solenoid seals. Remove any damaged seals.

    If necessary, using the special tools, remove the VCT oil control solenoid seals. Use Special Service Tool: 205-142 (T80T-4000-J) Installer, Differential Bearing Cone., 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  1. 19.

    NOTE: Inspect the spark plug tube seals. Remove any damaged seals.

    If necessary, using the special tools, remove the spark plug tube seals. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer., 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  1. 20.

    Clean the valve cover, cylinder head and engine front cover sealing surfaces with metal surface prep.
