Engine Front Cover: Removal

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, may cause engine failure.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

2.

Remove the engine appearance cover.

Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .

4.

Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

5.

Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE

6.

Disconnect the electrical connector and the wire retainer. Disconnect the quick connect coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC-to-TB (throttle body) pipe.

  Disconnect the PCV pressure sensor electrical connector.

  Remove the PCV tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .

Disconnect the quick connect couplings and the turbocharger bypass tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger. Disconnect the turbocharger inlet tube from the grommet and remove the turbocharger inlet tube.

If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector and wire retainers.

Loosen the clamps. Disconnect the turbocharger outlet tube from the bracket grommet and remove the turbocharger outlet tube.

Disconnect the battery positive cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

14.

Disconnect the turbocharger inlet tube hose.

Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger. Disconnect the turbocharger inlet tube from the grommet and remove the turbocharger inlet tube.

- Disconnect the turbocharger outlet tube hose.
- Loosen the clamps. Disconnect the turbocharger outlet tube from the bracket grommet and remove the turbocharger outlet tube.

Remove the oil drain plug and drain the engine oil.
Torque

: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

Remove and discard the engine oil filter.

Remove the following items:
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
- Remove the LH valve cover. Refer to: Valve Cover LH .
- Remove the RH valve cover. Refer to: Valve Cover RH .
- Remove the coolant pump. Refer to: COOLANT PUMP .
- Remove the crankshaft front seal. Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .

20.

Remove the nut, bolt and position aside the generator.

Remove the generator stud.

Remove the bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner.

Remove the pushpin retainer from the oil pan.

Remove the nut and position the transmission cooler tube bracket aside. Position out the engine wiring.

Disconnect the generator wiring from the engine front cover.

Remove the engine front cover bolts.

Using a pry tool on the pry pads shown below, remove the engine front cover.

Using the special tools, remove the engine front cover to coolant pipe seal. Use Special Service Tool: 205-150 (T80T-4000-S) Installer, Spindle Bearing., 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.
