Cylinder Head LH: Installation

1.

Install the cylinder head gasket.

NOTE: If the cylinder head is replaced, a new secondary timing chain tensioner will need to be installed.

NOTE: Install new cylinder head bolts.

Install the cylinder head and the new bolts. Tighten in the sequence shown below in 5 stages.

Torque

: Stage 1: 177 lb.in (20 Nm) Stage 2: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm) Stage 3: 90 ° Stage 4: 90 ° Stage 5: 45 °

Install the M6 bolt.
Torque

: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

NOTE: The valve tappets must be installed in their original positions.

Lubricate the valve tappets with clean engine oil and install.

Material

: Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-QSP (WSS-M2C946-A)

5.

NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil.

Install the CMP sensors and the bolts.

Material

: Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-QSP (WSS-M2C946-A)

Torque

: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

6.
- Position back the ground strap and install the bolt.
  Torque
  
  : 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Connect the CMP sensors electrical connectors.
- Install the ground wire and the stud bolt.
  Torque
  
  : Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) Stage 2: 20 °
- Install the wiring harness retainer and if equipped, the nut.
  Torque
  
  : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

7.

Disconnect the LH fuel charge harness electrical connector.

NOTE: Apply clean engine oil to the threads of the high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts.
- Position the high-pressure fuel tube and hand start the flare nuts and bracket bolt.
  Material
  
  : Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-QSP (WSS-M2C946-A)
- Tighten the High-pressure fuel tube-to-RH fuel rail flare nut in 3 stages:
  Torque
  
  : Stage 1: 133 lb.in (15 Nm) Stage 2: 30 ° Stage 3: 24 lb.ft (32 Nm)
- Tighten the High-pressure fuel tube-to-LH fuel rail flare nut in 3 stages:
  Torque
  
  : Stage 1: 133 lb.in (15 Nm) Stage 2: 30 ° Stage 3: 24 lb.ft (32 Nm)
- Tighten the high-pressure fuel tube bracket bolt in 2 stages.
  Torque
  
  : Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) Stage 2: 45 °

9.
- Using new gaskets, install the coolant crossover manifold assembly and bolts.
  Torque
  
  : Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) Stage 2: 45 °
- Connect the heater hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

10.

NOTE: Do not use power tools to install the bolt or damage to the upper LH timing chain guide may occur.

Install the upper LH timing chain guide and the bolt.

Torque

: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

11.

Install the LH camshafts. Refer to: Camshafts .

12.

Install the LH turbocharger. Refer to: Turbocharger LH .

13.

Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
