Axle Carrier Bushing: Removal

NOTE: Only worn or damaged bushings need to be replaced.

1.

Remove the axle assembly. REFER to: Axle Assembly .

2.

Measure and record the width of the gap between the bushing front lip and the housing.

Using the special tools, remove the axle tube bushing.
Use Special Service Tool: 205-371 (T96T-5638-E) Remover, Front Axle Mounting Bushing Cup, 205-374 (T96T-5638-H) Installer, Front Axle Mounting Bushing Drawbolt, 205-527 Front Differential Housing Bushing.

4.

Using the special tools, remove the rear housing bushing.
Use Special Service Tool: 204-186 (T95T-5638-AH) Remover, Front Differential Housing Bushing, 205-371 (T96T-5638-E) Remover, Front Axle Mounting Bushing Cup, 205-374 (T96T-5638-H) Installer, Front Axle Mounting Bushing Drawbolt, 205-527 Remover/Installer, Front Differential Housing Bushing.

5.

NOTE: The drive pinion flange only needs to be removed if the front housing bushing is being removed.

Remove the drive pinion flange. REFER to: Drive Pinion Flange and Seal .

6.

Using the special tools, remove the front housing bushing.
Use Special Service Tool: 205-371 (T96T-5638-E) Remover, Front Axle Mounting Bushing Cup, 205-374 (T96T-5638-H) Installer, Front Axle Mounting Bushing Drawbolt, 205-527 Remover/Installer, Front Differential Housing Bushing.
