Differential Carrier - Vehicles With: Electronic Locking Differential (ELD): Disassembly

NOTE: The ELD coil, plunger and cam ring are only available with the differential carrier assembly.

  1. 1.

    Remove the differential carrier. Refer to: Differential Carrier .

  1. 2.

    Remove and discard the ring gear bolts.

    Using the general equipment, remove the ring gear. Use the General Equipment: Punch Use the General Equipment: Copper Hammer

    NOTE: The differential flange and ring gear flange must be free of any old retaining compound material. Make sure both surfaces are clean and free of oil, dust and debris. Failure to clean the surfaces can result in ring gear runout concerns.
    NOTE: Use solvent and Scotch-Brite ® pads to remove.

    Clean all traces of the old retaining compound material from the differential flange.

    Using the special tools, remove the LH differential bearing. Use Special Service Tool: 205-D064 (D84L-1123-A) Puller, Bearing., 205-D061 (D83T-4205-C2) Step Plate. Use the General Equipment: Puller

  1. 6.

    Using the general equipment, remove the RH differential bearing. Use Special Service Tool: 205-D072 (D97L-4221-A) 2 Jaw Puller., 205-D061 (D83T-4205-C2) Step Plate.
