Window Glass - Rear: Removal

All vehicles 

1. For regular and Super Cab vehicles, remove the headliner. For Super Crew vehicles, lower and position the headliner forward. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
2. Remove the rear trim panel pin-type retainers.

3. Position aside the rear trim panel.
4. If equipped, disconnect the 2 rear window defrost grid electrical connectors.
   • If equipped with power sliding window, disconnect the in-line electrical connector (blue).
5. If equipped, remove the center tether anchor bolt and tether anchor.

6. Remove the rear window glass nuts.
7. NOTE: Use only a plastic windshield setting tool to slide under the seal to separate the foam core butyl from the glass. Once the glass starts to separate from the body, constant hand pressure will break the seal and the glass can be removed. The aid of an assistant will be required to support the glass during this step to prevent damage to the glass frame, body or power sliding window cables (if equipped). Failure to use a plastic windshield setting tool can damage the body or the glass frame.
   NOTE: If equipped with a power sliding rear window, the glass must be supported in close proximity to the body during the following power sliding rear window removal steps.

   Remove the rear glass from the vehicle.

8. NOTE: LH transition block screw shown, RH similar.

   Remove the 2 screws from the LH and RH transition blocks.

9. NOTE: The following substeps are to prevent the cables from popping out of the motor housing. If an existing regulator and motor assembly is to be reused, do not allow the cables to pop out of the motor housing, as they can unwind from the drum. If the cables unwind from the drum, a new regulator and motor assembly will have to be installed.
   NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.

   Remove the LH cable first, then the RH side cable. Press and hold the transition block away from the centerline of the vehicle.

10. NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.

    Clamp and hold the cable near the transition block.

    Gently pull up the end of the transition block and lift it out of the groove. Do not release the clamp.

    Slowly release the clamp on the cable to gradually unload the tensioning spring on the motor housing.

    Remove the cable swag from the guide bracket on the sliding rear window.

    NOTE: The remaining removal step(s) are only necessary when transferring the original sliding glass panel to the new rear sliding window assembly.

    Power or manual sliding rear window 

14. Remove the sliding rear window glass. For additional information, refer to WINDOW GLASS - REAR, POWER SLIDING PANEL  or WINDOW GLASS - REAR, MANUAL SLIDING PANEL .
15. Remove the upper and lower rail fillers from the new rear window glass frame assembly.

16. Slide the center bracket guide all the way to the LH side, then pull the LH side straight up so the guide foot can pass through the slot in the glass frame assembly.

17. Carefully slide the center bracket guide all the way to the RH side, then pull the RH side straight up so the guide foot can pass through the slot in the glass frame assembly. Transfer the center bracket guide to the new rear glass assembly.

    Power or manual sliding rear window 

18. Transfer the original sliding rear window glass to the new rear glass assembly. For additional information, refer to WINDOW GLASS - REAR, POWER SLIDING PANEL  or WINDOW GLASS - REAR, MANUAL SLIDING PANEL .
