Test Procedure

- AW1 PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS
Is DTC P009A present?
Yes No GO to AW2. GO to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHARTS AND DESCRIPTIONS . - AW2 DTC P009A: CHECK THE SENSOR FOR BIAS
- Ignition OFF.
- Cold soak the vehicle overnight.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
- Access the PCM and monitor the IAT11 (TEMP) and AAT (TEMP) PIDs.
Are both temperature readings within 20°C (36°F) of ambient temperature?
Yes No GO to AW3. INSTALL a new sensor for the one that is not within range.
REFER to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article.
Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - AW3 CHECK KOER IAT AND AAT VALUES NOTE: Strict observance of posted speed limits and attention to driving conditions are mandatory when carrying out the road test. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
- Ignition ON, engine running.
- Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
- Access the PCM and monitor the IAT11 (TEMP) and AAT (TEMP) PIDs.
- Drive the vehicle at a minimum speed of 80.5 km/h (50 mph), while monitoring the IAT and AAT PIDs.
- Record the PID values.
Are the sensor values within 20°C (36°F) of each other?
Yes No Unable to duplicate the concern. Cold soak the vehicle overnight and REPEAT the self-test. If no concern is present,
GO to AW4.INSTALL a new sensor for the one that is not within range. REFER to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article.
Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - AW4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
- Visually inspect for:
- pushed out pins
- corrosion
- Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Carry out the PCM self-test.
- Verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes No INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) . The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
