Symptom Chart - NVH

NOTE: NVH symptoms should be identified using the diagnostic tools that are available. For a list of these tools, an explanation of their uses and a glossary of common terms, refer to NOISE, VIBRATION & HARSHNESS . Since it is possible any one of multiple systems may be the cause of a symptom, it may be necessary to use a process of elimination type of diagnostic approach to pinpoint the responsible system. If this is not the causal system for the symptom, refer back to NOISE, VIBRATION & HARSHNESS for the next likely system and continue diagnosis.

SYMPTOM CHART - NVH

Condition	Possible Sources	Action
Mirror vibrates/loose	Exterior mirror mounting nuts loose	TIGHTEN the exterior mirror mounting nuts. REFER to the Torque Specifications table .
	NOTE: Compare the LH and RH exterior mirror glass to verify that the exterior mirror glass is loose. Mirror glass loose	Aero and trailer tow mirrors: PRESS the center of the exterior mirror glass up, down, left and right to make sure the exterior mirror glass is seated correctly. If the exterior mirror glass is still loose, REMOVE the exterior mirror glass and INSPECT the exterior mirror backing plate for damage. Trailer tow mirrors: VERIFY the exterior mirror back plate dampener springs are not missing or loose. If the dampener springs are loose, REMOVE and INSTALL dampener springs into the backing plate and INSTALL the mirror glass. Aero and trailer tow mirrors: If the dampener springs are missing or if the exterior mirror backing plate is damaged, INSTALL a new exterior mirror glass. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR GLASS - AERO or EXTERIOR MIRROR GLASS - TRAILER TOW .
	Aftermarket air deflector/stone shields	If possible, REMOVE aftermarket air deflector/stone shield, then ROAD TEST the vehicle. If the concern is no longer present, ADVISE the customer that aftermarket components were causing undesired vibration.
	Power folding mirrors are not synchronized	SYNCHRONIZE the power folding mirrors. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR SYNCHRONIZATION - POWER FOLDING .
	The power telescoping mirrors have been manually telescoped	PRESS the telescoping rear view mirror control switch to EXTEND and RETRACT the telescoping exterior mirrors.
	The power folding mirrors have been manually folded	PRESS the exterior mirror switch rearward to FOLD and UNFOLD the exterior mirrors.
Wind noise	Foam gasket between exterior rear view mirror and door is damaged or misaligned	VERIFY the foam gasket is in good condition. If necessary, REPOSITION foam gasket between exterior rear view mirror and door frame.
	Exterior mirror is not correctly fitted to the door	VERIFY there are no gaps between the exterior mirror and the door. If necessary, LOOSEN the exterior mirror nuts and REPOSITION the exterior mirror.
	Exterior mirror cover	VERIFY the exterior mirror cover is not loose or broken. INSTALL a new exterior mirror cover if necessary. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR COVER .
	Outside rear view mirror side lamp assembly is installed incorrectly	CHECK for correct outside rear view mirror side lamp assembly installation. REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .
