Removal and Installation

  1. If equipped, remove the tailgate step assist handle. For additional information, refer to BODY PANEL SYSTEM - BODY CLOSURES .
  2. Remove the bolts and the tailgate access panel (7 bolts for flareside bed, 8 for without step tailgate, or 13 with step tailgate).
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  3. Remove the 2 tailgate release handle nuts.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  4. Remove the tailgate release handle.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
