  1. If equipped, remove the video camera. For additional information, REFER to PARKING AID .
  2. Apply masking tape over the tailgate badges and on the tailgate surfaces surrounding the applique.
  3. Spray a liberal amount of 3M™ Prep Solvent-70 or equivalent along the top of the applique and in the separated areas between the applique and sheet metal
    • Allow saturation time for the solvent to break down the adhesive tape.
    4. NOTE: Do not use excessive pressure or prying leverage to remove the applique or damage to it or the tailgate sheet metal could occur.
  4. Break the bond of the adhesive tape at the top of the applique using a molding removal tool such as 3M™ Side Molding and Emblem Removal Tool or equivalent.
  5. Work the applique free from the sheet metal from the top and sides as far as the tool will reach.
    • Continue to apply solvent as required to help break the adhesive bond.
  6. Remove the tailgate from the vehicle and place on a suitable workstand.
  7. Saturate the lower portion of the tailgate applique adhesive with solvent.
    • Allow saturation time for the solvent to break down the adhesive tape.
    8. NOTE: Do not use excessive pressure or prying leverage to remove the applique or damage to it or the tailgate sheet metal could occur.
  8. Break the bond of the adhesive tape using the special tool and remove the tailgate applique.
  9. Carefully remove all existing adhesive tape from the tailgate sheet metal and the applique by hand or using a 3M™ Stripe off Wheel or equivalent.
    • A slower speed will work better to remove the adhesive.
  10. Install the tailgate on the vehicle.
  11. Thoroughly wash and dry the tailgate and applique.
  12. Reclean the tailgate and applique with a commercially available wax and grease remover.
  13. Wipe down all mating surfaces with an isopropanol alcohol cleaner.
    14. NOTE: Care must be taken not to allow any drips or spills of adhesion promoter on the visible portion of the applique or tailgate painted surface or damage will occur.
  14. Apply 3M™ Automotive Adhesion Promoter or equivalent to the two-sided tape contact areas of the applique.
    15. NOTE: Tailgate applique installation should not be attempted on vehicle with surface temperatures below 21°C (70°F) or adhesion problems could occur.
    NOTE: Keep all contaminants off the adhesive face(s) of the attachment tape when applying to the applique and tailgate or adhesion may be compromised.
  15. Apply 3M™ Automotive Acrylic Plus Attachment Tape or equivalent to the previous tape location of the applique.
  16. Install the applique to the tailgate.
    • Apply pressure to the applique in the tape areas to ensure good adhesion.
    • A small amount of heat may be applied to aid in installation and adhesion. Temperatures should not exceed 52°C (125°F).
