Manual Control Lever Shaft & Seal: Installation

    NOTE: Prior to installing the manual control lever shaft seal, clean the bore opening with mineral spirits.

  1. Using the Shift Shaft Fluid Seal Installer, install the manual control lever shaft seal.
  2. Loosen the 2 bolts on the Transmission Range (TR) sensor.

  3. Install the manual control lever shaft.

  4. NOTE: Leave a small portion of the pin exposed.

  5. Install the manual control lever shaft retaining pin into the case.
  6. NOTE: When the manual control lever shaft retaining pin is installed correctly, 2 mm (0.078 in) of the pin will be exposed.

  7. Install a new manual control valve detent lever retaining pin.
  8. Tighten the 2 TR bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  9. Install the transmission fluid pan, gasket and filter. For additional information, refer to FLUID PAN, GASKET AND FILTER .
  10. Connect the selector lever cable end.

  11. Adjust the selector lever cable. Verify that the vehicle starts in PARK and NEUTRAL and the reverse lamps illuminate in REVERSE. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS .
