Wheel Hub: Removal

All vehicles 

  1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
  2. Remove the brake caliper anchor plate. For additional information, refer to REAR DISC BRAKE .

  3. Remove the axle shaft. For additional information, refer to Axle Shaft .

    F350 

  4. NOTE: Make sure that the drive tangs on the Wheel Hub Nut Socket engage the 4 slots of the hub nut.

  5. Using the Wheel Hub Nut Socket, remove the hub nut.

    F450 and F550 

  6. Using a suitable socket, remove the hub nut.

    All vehicles 

  7. Remove the outer rear wheel bearing.

  8. Remove the rear hub and brake disc assembly.
  9. Remove the 8 bolts and separate the rear hub from the rear brake disc.

  10. Inspect the rear hub for the following:
    • Cracks and damage around the bolt holes.
    • Oversized holes.
