Main Control - Overhaul: Disassembly

  1. Lift the tab on the TFT sensor, rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise and remove it from the main control valve body.

  2. Remove the E-clip on the manual control valve and remove the manual control valve from the main control valve body.

  3. Remove the 7 bolts and remove the solenoid retainer.

  4. NOTE: Solenoids are calibrated from the factory and are not all the same. To replace a solenoid, match the replacement solenoid type (normally high/normally low) and the band number with the original solenoid or harsh/erratic shifts, harsh/soft engagement or damage to the transmission can occur.

  5. Number the solenoids 1 through 7 and number the main control solenoid ports 1 through 7 to correspond to the solenoid. Pull the solenoids out of the main control valve body.
  6. NOTE: Note of the location of the 4 longer main control bolts for assembly.

  7. Remove the 26 main control bolts from the main control.
  8. NOTE: Many components and surfaces in the main control valve body are precision machined. Use care when handling the upper and lower valve body or damage can occur to the machined surfaces.
    NOTE: The main control is positioned on the lower valve body before separating the upper valve body from the lower valve body to keep the solenoid dampers from falling out of the lower valve body.
  9. Position the main control on the lower valve body and separate the upper valve body from the lower valve body.

  10. Remove the 2 solenoid dampers from the lower valve body.

  11. Remove the 2 bolts and remove the separator plate from the upper valve body assembly.

  12. NOTE: Note the location of the 3 check balls, the relief valves and the control valve inlet nozzle for assembly.
  13. Remove the 3 check balls, the 2 relief valves and the pump inlet nozzle.

  14. NOTE: Note the location of the retaining clips, caps, valves and valve springs for assembly. Failure to install the components in the correct location will result in harsh/soft or no shifts or damage to the transmission.
  15. Remove the retaining clips, caps, valves and valve springs from each bore of the upper and lower valve body assembly. Note the location and order of the components for assembly.
