Pinpoint Test C: P0720, P0721, P0722, P0723

  1. C1 READ AND RECORD ALL DTCS
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0720, P0721, P0722, and/or P0723 present? 

    1. Yes: GO to C2 
    2. No: PERFORM the Speed Sensor Test,

      REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning  .

  2. C2 CHECK THE OSS (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED) SENSOR POWER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect OSS Sensor C193.
    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure.

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 10.5 volts? 

    1. Yes: GO to C3 
    2. No: GO to  C4
  3. C3 CHECK THE OSS (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED) SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT
    • Measure.

    Is the voltage greater than 10.5 volts? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new OSS sensor.

      REFER to: Output Shaft Speed (OSS) Sensor  .

      PERFORM the Speed Sensor Test, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning  .

    2. No: GO to C4 
  4. C4 CHECK THE OSS (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED) SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect TCM C1750B.
    • Disconnect OSS Sensor C193.
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Measure.

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to C5 
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit.
  5. C5 CHECK THE OSS (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED) SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Measure.

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C193-1 Ω -
      C193-2 Ω -

    Are the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new OSS sensor.

      REFER to: Output Shaft Speed (OSS) Sensor  .

      Perform the Speed Sensor Test, REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning  .

    2. No: INSPECT and REPAIR the circuit shorted to ground. If a short to ground was not found, INSTALL a new TCM.

      REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM)  .

      PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration,

      REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Learning  .
