Pinpoint Test AY: The Compass Display Is Inaccurate

  1. AY1 CHECK THE COMPASS ACCURACY 

    Position the vehicle and observe the compass display:

    Direction Compass Display
    North N
    Northeast NE
    East E
    Southeast SE
    South S
    Southwest SW
    West W
    Northwest NW

    Does the compass display as indicated? 

    1. Yes:  The compass is operating correctly at this time. The concern could have been caused by external magnetic interference. INFORM the customer of the compass operation.

      REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description  .

    2. No:  GO to AY2
  2. AY2 CHECK FOR STUCK COMPASS DISPLAY 
    • Verify whether the compass display changes direction with the vehicle.

    Does the compass display change direction? 

    1. Yes:  GO to Pinpoint Test AX 
    2. No:  GO to AY3
  3. AY3 CHECK THE COMPASS ZONE SETTING AND CALIBRATION 
    • Calibrate the compass and set the zone. Refer to the Owner's Literature.

    Does the compass calibrate correctly? 

    1. Yes:  The compass is OK. The concern may have been cause by an incorrect zone setting or calibration concern.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new compass module.

      REFER to: Compass Module  .

      SET the zone and CALIBRATE the compass. REFER to the Owner's Literature.
