Instrument Panel: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Evacuate and recover the A/C refrigerant.
Refer to: AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) SYSTEM RECOVERY, EVACUATION AND CHARGING .
Remove the cowl panel grille.
Refer to: COWL PANEL GRILLE .

NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.

Remove both front doors. Refer to FRONT DOOR
Remove the floor console.
Refer to: Floor Console - Vehicles Without: Center Armrest .

Refer to: Floor Console - Vehicles With: Center Armrest .
Disconnect the battery.
Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
Remove the automatic transmission selector lever or the manual transmission gearshift lever.
Refer to: EXTERNAL CONTROLS .

Refer to: GEARSHIFT LEVER - VEHICLES WITH: 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION - B5/IB5/5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION - MTX75 .

Refer to: GEARSHIFT LEVER - VEHICLES WITH: 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION - B6/6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION - MMT6 .
Position the parking brake control aside.
Torque : 35 Nm

Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt and disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering gear.
Torque : 28 Nm

NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out the following steps.

NOTE: RH side shown in illustration, LH side similar.

NOTE: Remove the bolts from one side completely and support the instrument panel before removing the bolts from the opposite side.

Torque : 25 Nm

NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.

Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
Rotate the instrument panel face down and remove through the LH front door opening.
