  With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview

  Remove the engine appearance cover.

  Remove the wiring retainers and the nuts and remove the battery tray support bracket.

    Remove the subframe to roll restrictor bolt.

    Remove the roll restrictor-to-roll restrictor bracket bolt. Loosen: 2 turn(s)

  Remove the front roll restrictor bracket-to-transmission bolt.

  Remove the LH fender splash shield. REFER to: Fender Splash Shield

  Remove the LH halfshaft. REFER to: Front Halfshaft LH

  Remove the front wheels. REFER to: Wheel and Tire

  NOTE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.
  NOTE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.

  Remove and discard the lower control arm bolt and nut and separate the lower control arm from the steering knuckle.

  WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

  • 1.
    
    Remove and discard the 2 bearing strap nuts.

  • 2.
    
    Remove and discard the bearing strap.

  • 3.
    
    Slide the intermediate shaft out far enough to clear the seal.

    Install the seal protector. 97ZT-7M181-A Seal Protector.

  • 2.
    
    Remove the intermediate shaft from the transmission.

  NOTE: The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 18°.
  NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45°.

  Position aside intermediate shaft aside.
